Real Estate Investing Like The Pros

By Art C Ryter at 02/15/07 06:22

Real Estate Developer R. Donahue Peebles gives 10 tips to real estate investing like a pro. Mr. Peebles is best known for selling the Royal Palm Hotel in Miami—a sale which laid the foundation for other projects in Miami, Mexico, the Caribbean, and the San Francisco Bay Area. His tips are: Commit to the real estate industry; get some RE business experience; be critical so as not to be overly optimistic; stay away from high-interest loans; expect unforseeables during renovations; make sure your property can cover operating expenses; be conservative with profit margin forecasts.

A little work, a little play can make those Golden Years a happy

By Art C Ryter at 02/13/07 19:40
Retirement to a little slice of paradise is possible with financial planning and the ability to dream. Susan Mintz and her husband built their second home in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico, for $150,000. The cost of living is very appealing in places like Mexico, Costa Rica, and Panama where a year health insurance policy is equivalent to a month’s premium in California. Retiring abroad need not involve changing banks as ATM machines are available in most communities.

'Secret' Colombian city gets rediscovered

By Art C Ryter at 02/12/07 19:38
La Boquilla, a town just four miles up the coast from Cartagena, Colombia, is the site of a boom in residential and commercial construction which has taken off since 2002. As Cartagena becomes an international port of call for cruises in the Caribbean, tourist money and investment are driving up real estate prices in the walled city; ‘secret’ because it did not quite experience the violence and kidnappings that ravaged other parts of the country. Marcial Ortega, a long-time resident of La Boquilla, recently sold his half-acre beachfront property to a Spanish developer for a million dollars.
